One in four retirees receives only $80 a month: How many are there in Ukraine?

These figures are provided by OpenDataBot, citing information from the Pension Fund of Ukraine.

The average pension in Ukraine is 7,273 UAH.

At the same time, 24% of pensioners – or nearly 2.4 million people – receive between 3,001 and 4,000 UAH per month. Another 3.4% receive payments of up to 3,000 UAH.

About 3.2 million Ukrainians receive pensions above the average. Of these, 436,200 receive pensions exceeding 20,000 hryvnias.

Distribution of pensioners by benefit amount:

• over 20,000 UAH – 436,240 people (4.4%);
• 10,001–20,000 UAH – 1,443,495 (14.5%);
• 7,001–10,000 UAH – 1,328,595 (13.3%);
• 5,001–7,000 UAH – 2,314,560 (23.2%);
• 4,001–5,000 UAH – 1,719,253 (17.2%);
• 3,001–4,000 UAH – 2,398,705 (24%);
• up to 3,000 UAH – 335,771 (3.4%).

The highest average pensions are paid in Kyiv – 9,901 UAH, which is 36% higher than the national average. Average pension payments are also higher in Donetsk Oblast – 8,990 UAH – and Luhansk Oblast – 8,752 UAH.

The lowest average pension is in Ternopil Oblast: 5,657 UAH. In Chernivtsi Oblast, this figure stands at 5,839 UAH, and in Zakarpattia Oblast – 5,918 UAH.

At the same time, 2.8 million pensioners, or 28%, continue to work. Their average pension is 7,994 UAH.

As a reminder, in April of this year, it was reported that the average pension in Ukraine had exceeded 7,000 hryvnias. However, nearly one in four citizens still receives about 3,500 hryvnias per month. In early June, the Cabinet of Ministers announced that it is preparing a pension reform, and its key provisions are already known.
