Britain's new prime minister has made his first statement on Ukraine

The new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Andy Burnham, stated that one of his first phone calls after taking office will be with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He emphasized that he wants to personally reaffirm the United Kingdom’s unwavering support for Ukraine.

According to Bernam, his first international engagement in office will also be a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump. Foreign policy issues are expected to be among the key priorities of the new British government in the coming months.
“I will make it very clear to President Zelenskyy today that nothing has changed. I will stand with him 100%, just as Keir Starmer will,”

The new head of government also recalled that during his tenure as mayor of Greater Manchester, he actively collaborated with Ukrainian cities.
“I will draw on all of this experience in my new role. President Zelenskyy will have no doubt that the United Kingdom’s support is unwavering and resolute. The United Kingdom will stand by him, and I personally will stand by him.”

As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already congratulated Burnam on his appointment. Earlier, Zelenskyy and former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a joint press conference in Kyiv. The leaders discussed record-breaking military aid, the lifting of restrictions on long-range strikes against Russian territory, and the creation of a new diplomatic architecture in Europe.
