The U.S. Senate has backed the advancement of a bill imposing sanctions on Russia, according to Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he had met with more than 60 U.S. senators from the Republican and Democratic parties in Washington. According to him, the parties discussed support for Ukraine, strengthening air defense, and the Senate vote on a bill imposing sanctions against Russia.

During his visit to Washington, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with representatives of both parties in the U.S. Senate. According to the head of state, more than 60 senators participated in the meeting.
The president thanked American lawmakers for their support of Ukraine and for their high praise of the Ukrainian military’s actions on the front lines.
Today in Washington, we had a major meeting with representatives of both parties in the Senate—more than 60 senators were present. Thank you for this support and for your high regard for the achievements of our soldiers on the front lines and for Ukraine’s ability to respond appropriately to Russia’s attacks on our people.

According to him, one of the key topics of the talks was strengthening Ukraine’s anti-ballistic defense.

Vote on Sanctions Against Russia
Zelenskyy also noted that on the same day, the U.S. Senate held a procedural vote on a bill imposing sanctions against Russia, on which, according to the president, Senator Lindsey Graham had worked extensively.
It was an honor to be present during the vote count–86 senators supported the bill. This is the first step toward implementing Lindsey’s plans and certainly a step toward peace. It is important that this tool works

In closing, the president thanked the United States, as well as representatives of both parties in Congress, for their support of Ukraine.
As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington. According to the head of state, the two sides held substantive talks during which they discussed key issues of cooperation. Zelenskyy also thanked the American leader for their joint efforts aimed at protecting Ukrainians and achieving a just peace.
