Talks between Lavrov and Rubio took place in Manila: Russia stated that “arms supplies to Ukraine are unacceptable”

On Thursday, July 23, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a meeting in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit. During the conversation, the Russian official stressed that further arming of Kyiv was unacceptable and accused European countries of pursuing destabilizing policies.
Maria Zakharova, an official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced the talks on Telegram.
The Russian news agency Interfax also reported that the talks themselves lasted 35 minutes.
According to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry’s press service, the parties held a “thorough exchange of views.”
During the discussion of Ukrainian issues, S.V. Lavrov briefed his American counterpart on the actual situation along the front lines and emphasized the unacceptability of continuing to supply the Kyiv regime with weapons, as well as the destabilizing policies of European countries that continue to seek to inflict a “strategic defeat.”

At the same time, the Russian official confirmed Moscow’s readiness for a political and diplomatic resolution of the war based on the proposals put forward by the U.S. during the meeting between Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Anchorage.
In addition, the diplomats touched on international issues, in particular the situation in the Persian Gulf, discussed the normalization of conditions for the operation of Russian and U.S. diplomatic missions, and reached an agreement to continue contacts between the foreign ministries.
As a reminder, yesterday Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and stated that they would discuss Ukraine.

In response, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed dissatisfaction and called on Washington to clarify its position on resolving the war in Ukraine.
