President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the current Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, will continue to focus on foreign affairs, particularly in relations with partners in the Middle East and the Gulf region.

This was reported on his official Telegram channel.

According to the president, Umerov will focus on communications with partners, negotiations, promoting security cooperation, developing relations between the intelligence communities of Ukraine and its partners, as well as implementing the Drone Deals and Freya programs.

Ihor Klymenko, who previously served as Minister of Internal Affairs, will now become Secretary of the National Security Council.

As Zelenskyy noted, his experience will strengthen “domestic efforts to ensure Ukraine’s resilience, coordination between defense and security agencies, and countering challenges such as cyber threats from Russia and the activities of criminal networks.”

As a reminder, Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously announced that he had personnel proposals for Rustem Umerov, who currently serves as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council. However, he did not specify a particular position. In addition, the president stated that he had considered appointing former Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, but is now preparing a different role for her.
