Vladislav Faraponov, head of the "Institute of American Studies" think tank, finds the situation surrounding the appointment of the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine strange.

He spoke about this in an interview with "Shelter."

In particular, the expert believes that the failure to appoint a full-fledged U.S. ambassador to Ukraine is detrimental to cooperation between the two countries.

It’s a somewhat strange story involving… the acting U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, who is supposedly about to be replaced. …There will likely be a new person in place by Ukraine’s Independence Day. This just seems incredibly strange because, for example, her predecessor, Bridget Brink—and Christina Quinn, for that matter—served as acting ambassador for a long time, that is, as Chargé d’Affaires of the United States in Ukraine. Why is that?

Faraponov also suggested that the U.S. might not appoint an ambassador to Ukraine “until the end of 2028.”

“There is a risk that there will be interim heads of the U.S. Embassy here until the end of 2028. There could be a completely paradoxical situation in which Rubio (Marco Rubio—Ed.) becomes the Republican Party’s nominee and, hypothetically, wins the election (for U.S. president—Ed.), and given his profile—to put it bluntly— in a country as important as Ukraine, there would be no permanent ambassador for virtually the entire term of the administration (Rubio heads the State Department under Donald Trump—ed.). That would simply look strange,” the expert noted.

As a reminder, in July, the U.S. appointed Sandra Audkirk as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim in Ukraine.
