Zelenskyy dismissed Stefanishyna from her post as Ukraine's ambassador to the U.S.

This is set forth in Decree No. 696/2026 dated August 3, 2026.

As a reminder, earlier, Georgiy Tykhyi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, confirmed in an interview with “Shelter” that discussions were underway regarding the replacement of Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.S.

On July 12, 2026, “Interfax-Ukraine,” citing a source, reported that Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S., Olga Stefanishyna, would leave the diplomatic service of her own accord, despite the fact that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is satisfied with her work.

The reason cited was certain personal circumstances.

Olga Stefanishyna was appointed Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.S. by a decree of the President of Ukraine dated August 27, 2025. Prior to that, she served as Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Minister of Justice of Ukraine.

On July 30, 2026, the publication “Suspilne” published comments by Stefanishyna, in which she emphasized, in particular, that Zelenskyy had not asked her to resign and did not want her to do so.

She also addressed allegations that she had failed to declare her assets.

In July 2025, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, as reported by the publication “Hromadske,” opened a criminal case against Olga Stefanishyna, who at the time was acting Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine—Minister of Justice of Ukraine.

The case was opened on suspicion of abuse of power or official position.
