The Kinburn Spit has become a trap for Russian troops: The Ukrainian Armed Forces are cutting off the occupiers' supply lines

Ukrainian military officials say that Russian forces on the occupied Kinburn Spit are facing supply difficulties and are being forced to retreat deeper into the peninsula.
This was reported by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s “Crimea. Realities” project.
According to the soldiers, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed Russian artillery on the spit and are systematically striking the occupiers’ logistics; at the same time, due to the presence of civilians, Ukrainian troops are forced to carefully verify targets before striking.
On the Kinburn Peninsula, Ukrainian military officials estimate there may be about 2,500 Russian servicemembers. Some of them are stationed in populated areas, specifically in Pokrovske, Vasylivka, Pokrovka, and Heroiske, while a significant number are in forested areas.
The occupiers are attempting to disguise themselves as civilians and are using local residents’ homes and destroyed civilian structures as shelters.
Because civilians still remain on the peninsula, the Ukrainian military cannot strike buildings without prior reconnaissance.
Background
The Kinburn Spit holds strategic military significance due to its unique geographical location, as it controls the exit from the Dnipro-Bug Estuary to the Black Sea and is the only territory in the Mykolaiv region that remains occupied.
The liberation of the Kinburn Spit is one of the top priorities for the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the southern sector, as it will make it possible to:
- fully protect Ochakiv and Mykolaiv from close-range artillery fire;
- restore shipping from the ports of Mykolaiv Oblast;
- create a foothold for further pressure on the left bank of the Kherson Oblast.
Russian troops are facing supply problems
The Ukrainian Armed Forces are deliberately targeting Russian logistics. The commander of a Ukrainian reconnaissance unit, codenamed “Java,” stated that Russian forces have already retreated beyond Heroiske and are facing serious logistical problems.

One of the main targets for Ukrainian drone operators is the transport vehicles the Russian military uses to deliver supplies to their positions. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also employ remote mining of the routes used by Russian military vehicles.
According to the soldiers, supply issues are of strategic importance, as without regular deliveries of ammunition, fuel, and food, Russian units on the peninsula lose the ability to conduct full-scale combat operations.
As a reminder, the Ukrainian Armed Forces forced Russian troops to retreat from the northern and western sections of the Kinburn Spit deeper into the peninsula, establishing complete fire control over this territory.
