Russia Is Using Depleted Uranium Munitions: The SBU Has Documented New Evidence

Counterintelligence and investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine have documented six additional instances of Russian troops using depleted uranium munitions during shelling of the Chernihiv region between April and June 2026.

As the investigation revealed, for these attacks, the enemy specifically adapted R-60M missiles for “Geran-2” strike drones, whose warheads, according to the results of an expert analysis, contain identified nuclear material-Uranium-235 and Uranium-238 isotopes.
During an inspection of the impact sites, radiation levels were recorded at 80 times the natural background radiation level.
At the same time, the gamma radiation levels from individual fragments of enemy drones ranged from 8.3 to 24 μSv/h, compared to the permissible health standard of 0.3 μSv/h. Such radiation levels pose a direct threat to human health and the environment

The agency added that after the discovery, the hazardous components were neutralized, and based on the uncovered facts, investigators opened a criminal case under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (war crimes).
As a reminder, in May, counterintelligence and investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine recorded elevated radiation levels on the wreckage of a Russian strike drone used by the occupiers to attack the Chernihiv region in April 2026.
Fragments of the missile were found near the village of Kamka following the attack on the night of April 7. According to the SBU, Russian troops use such missiles during massive strikes to target Ukrainian aircraft that intercept enemy UAVs.
