During the massive Russian attack on July 6, there were more than 40,000 people in the subway stations in Kyiv.
This was reported by the Kyiv Metro.
Nearly 3,000 children spent the night in the subway.
The Metro Authority reminds the public that during an air raid alert, 46 underground stations operate as shelters, and all station entrances are open.
Tips for those staying overnight
- arrive before the station closes (the schedule is published on official websites);
- notify metro staff and the police;
- go down to the platform and follow staff instructions;
- During an air raid alert, access to stations is granted under standard conditions.
Since the average temperature at stations is 17–18°C, people should bring warm clothing, a blanket or sleeping pad, as well as water, medication, and hygiene supplies. For pets, bring diapers and bags.
The Kyiv Metro advises using central stations whenever possible, as they are usually less crowded.
As a reminder, on the night of June 2, during a massive Russian shelling, more than 41,000 people were at Kyiv Metro stations. Among them were nearly 4,500 children. Against this backdrop, a discussion has erupted on social media regarding the use of large camping tents in metro stations during air raid alerts.
Later, the Kyiv Metro announced that it would not ban tents in shelters but asked people to use compact items instead.
