Explosions have been continuing for more than five hours in Novorossiysk: the city is under attack by drones, and there are fires

Defense forces likely attacked Novorossiysk throughout the night of August 12, from where Russian troops may have been planning to launch cruise missiles at Ukraine. According to Exilenova+, the drone attack on the port lasted from the beginning of the night until early morning.

To counter the strike, Russian forces deployed mobile fire teams. There are also reports of drone activity near the Crimean Bridge.

A fire broke out at the Novorossiysk Grain Processing Plant following the attack. The facility is a large port transshipment complex comprising two grain elevators and port infrastructure.

According to reports, the facility’s total storage capacity is 300,000 metric tons, and its berths can accommodate vessels with a deadweight of up to 72,000 metric tons.

Local residents continue to post footage from Novorossiysk. There are also reports of numerous fire hotspots detected by NASA’s FIRMS.

Eyewitnesses are filming the “sloppy” performance of Russian air defense, which has damaged high-rise buildings in the city–there are large holes in apartment walls, windows are shattered, and cars in courtyards have been burned.

At the same time, detailed information about the consequences of the attack is currently unavailable. Nothing is known yet about any casualties either.

As a reminder, on the night of August 10, the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Taneco oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk, located in the Russian region of Tatarstan. A fire was reported on the refinery’s premises following the attack.
