The Solomyanskyi District Court of Kyiv has imposed pretrial measures on the executives of a defense contractor suspected of official negligence. This relates to the case involving the explosions at warehouses in Vyshneve, near Kyiv, that occurred on July 6.

This was reported by Suspilne.

The company’s CEO, Ruslan Kuchynskyi, and his deputy for production were remanded in custody for 60 days – until September 14. They were not granted bail.

The court hearing was held behind closed doors because prosecutors and defense attorneys argued that any disclosure of details could jeopardize the country’s defense capabilities.

The investigation found that the company was storing ammunition in ordinary hangars that were not intended for that purpose at all. Furthermore, these storage facilities were located near residential buildings.

On the night of July 5–6, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region. Following the strike, a fire broke out at the defense facility in Vyshneve, triggering a secondary detonation of the ammunition stored in the hangars.

The explosions continued for several hours. Due to the threat of further detonations, residents of nearby streets were evacuated. In total, more than 600 people were temporarily relocated to safe areas.

Vyshneve suffered the most extensive damage among the settlements in the Kyiv region that were attacked that night. In the city, 280 residential buildings were damaged—253 single-family homes and 27 apartment buildings. According to data released later, 91 buildings were completely destroyed.

Following the results of a preliminary investigation, “Ukrainian Defense Industry” dismissed the heads of two state-owned enterprises and other officials whose actions or inaction may have contributed to the consequences of the explosions. On July 16, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported the detention of the CEO of one of the enterprises and his deputy for production.
