Zelenskyy: Ukraine and Russia need to take steps, rather than expect Ukraine alone to make compromises

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready to seek compromise solutions during negotiations aimed at ending the war.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement while answering questions from journalists.
Speaking about the visit by U.S. President’s Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Zelenskyy noted that the negotiations took place against the backdrop of Ukraine’s strengthened position both on the battlefield and at the negotiating table.
Ukraine has become stronger on the battlefield, and Ukraine is in a stronger negotiating position. Incidentally, the American side is also saying this, and their military and analysts acknowledge it. This is a fact. In 2026—since the end of 2025, so to speak—we have been growing stronger on the battlefield

According to him, the fact that representatives of the U.S. side visited both capitals was an important signal.
Separately, the president mentioned the issues of grain and energy, which, he said, are important not only for Ukraine and Russia but also for other countries.
Zelenskyy emphasized that further progress in the negotiation process requires reciprocal steps.
“We are ready to find a compromise here. But it is very important that we are in such a situation and in such a position today that both Ukraine and Russia need to take certain steps. We shouldn’t expect compromises only from Ukraine—Ukraine has already made so many compromises.”

As a reminder, during a visit to Kyiv, U.S. government representatives stated that Russia might be ready for negotiations after the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
