The government has appointed interim heads of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Yevhen Khmara has been appointed acting Minister of Defense, and Andriy Sibiga has been appointed acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.

According to Koretsky, the decision was made to ensure continuity in the areas of defense and foreign policy.

In addition, the government has begun reorganizing the structure of ministries in accordance with decisions by the Verkhovna Rada. Specifically, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy is being reinstated, and a separate Ministry of Communities, Territories, and Internally Displaced Persons is being established.

The government is also separating the areas of economy and environment and recovery, as well as infrastructure and transportation.

As a reminder, the position of defense minister became vacant following the resignation of the previous government and the appointment of the new one. Mykhailo Fedorov had served as defense minister, but Zelenskyy decided not to renominate him. This sparked a wave of “cardboard” protests, which have been ongoing across the country for the second day in a row.

It is also known that Zelenskyy had previously considered former Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko for the position of defense minister, but this candidate is no longer being considered.
