In all of Ukraine’s major cities, the second day of rallies in support of former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has begun – thousands of people have taken to the streets.
Protesters are calling for Fedorov to be reinstated as defense minister, for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Syrsky, to be dismissed, and are also demanding a dialogue with the public.
Protesters are chanting “Syrskyi out”, “Shame”, “One United Ukraine”, “Fedorov”, “We stood, we stand, and we will stand”, and “Lawmakers, get to work”.
According to estimates, at least twice as many people are expected today as yesterday.
The organizers of the rallies are asking participants to prioritize their own safety and head to shelters in the event of air raid alerts. In Kharkiv, in particular, air raid alerts have already sounded three times, prompting protesters to continue their demonstrations in the subway.
As a reminder, rallies in support of Mykhailo Fedorov – who was removed from his post as defense minister in Serhiy Koretskyi’s new government – are continuing in Kyiv. Fedorov’s position in the government has been temporarily filled by Yevhen Khmara, the former acting head of the Security Service. Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi responded to Fedorov’s dismissal by recalling the defense of Kyiv in 2022.
