Protests in support of Mykhailo Fedorov and demanding his reinstatement as defense minister are taking place in various cities across Ukraine.

The Office of the President responded to a statement by First Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who emphasized the need to find a mechanism for holding elections in Ukraine even amid a prolonged war.

On Wednesday, August 19, another protest rally in support of Mykhailo Fedorov took place in Mariinsky Park near the Verkhovna Rada. The protesters are demanding that he be reinstated as Ukraine’s Minister of Defense so that he can continue the reforms he has initiated.

We’re seeing a revival of political life. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I quickly jotted down seven criteria off the top of my head. If we see prospects for improvement based on these seven criteria, then it’s a good thing.

It remains unclear why the president dismissed Mykhailo Fedorov. But another question is just as important: why did Fedorov himself remain silent for so many years?

All of that is, of course, true and well and good. But. Elections during a war are impossible.

Fedorov’s video address calling for elections effectively marks the former defense minister’s move to the opposition. In the current situation, this is a response to the fact that the possibility of his return to the post of defense minister has been definitively ruled out. But now the stakes are rising.
