“Rada—from the word ‘to consult.’ You’re not Russians!”: Protesters gather outside the Verkhovna Rada calling for Fedorov’s return to the Ministry of Defense
protest rally in support of Mykhailo Fedorov Shelter

On Wednesday, August 19, another protest rally in support of Mykhailo Fedorov took place in Mariinsky Park near the Verkhovna Rada. The protesters are demanding that he be reinstated as Ukraine’s Minister of Defense so that he can continue the reforms he has initiated.

This was reported by a “Shelter” correspondent.

This time, people took to the streets amid an expected personnel decision by parliament, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had officially submitted a nomination the day before to appoint the agency’s current acting head, Yevhen Khmara, as defense minister. The vote on his nomination is scheduled to take place today.

Protesters are calling on lawmakers to listen to the public when making important national decisions.

We hope that you, the deputies, are not a spineless Duma, like in a neighboring country, but rather the Verkhovna Rada. “Rada” comes from the word for “to consult.” You are not Russians
