Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that Ukraine must find a way to restore a fully-fledged democratic process even amid a protracted war.
He posted his message to Ukrainians on his YouTube channel.
Democracy cannot be held hostage by Russia. We are fighting precisely because we want to remain a free European nation

According to him, Ukraine must develop a legitimate, secure, and realistic mechanism for holding elections during wartime.
Fedorov noted that to achieve this, it is necessary to ensure the right to vote for military personnel, millions of Ukrainians abroad, and residents of frontline regions. He also believes it is important to guarantee the security of the electoral process, the independence of institutions, and public trust in the results.
This is difficult. But difficulty does not mean impossibility. Ukraine has, on many occasions, achieved what the world considered impossible. We can find a solution in this situation as well, because democracy is not a luxury of peacetime
Mykhailo Fedorov former Minister of Defense of Ukraine
He also stated that Ukraine must not allow Russia to determine when Ukrainians will be able to elect their own government.
We must not allow Putin to decide when Ukrainians can elect their own government. Ukrainian democracy must not depend on the Kremlin’s goodwill

As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted to the Verkhovna Rada nominations for Yevhen Khmara as Minister of Defense and Andriy Sybiga as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Meetings of the relevant committees and consideration of the nominations in the plenary hall are scheduled for August 19.
During the latest government reshuffle, the Rada did not have time to appoint the ministers of defense and foreign affairs. Zelenskyy did not submit the nominations before the start of parliament’s summer recess.
Today, August 18, lawmakers gathered for their first session since the summer recess, but it was interrupted by an air raid alert.
