President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted to the Verkhovna Rada nominations for the appointment of Yevhen Khmara as Minister of Defense and Andriy Sybiga as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

This was reported by People’s Deputies Iryna Gerashchenko, Oleksiy Honcharenko, and Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

According to Gerashchenko, the candidates are scheduled to meet with parliamentary factions today, August 18. Meetings of the relevant committees and the consideration of the candidates in the session hall are scheduled for August 19.

It was previously reported that Khmara and Sibiga are currently serving as acting heads of their respective ministries.

As a reminder, during the most recent government reshuffle, the Verkhovna Rada did not have time to appoint the ministers of defense and foreign affairs. Zelenskyy did not submit the nominations before the start of Parliament’s summer recess.

Today, August 18, lawmakers convened for their first session after the recess, but it was interrupted by an air raid alert.

Yesterday, August 17, Ukrainians in various cities across the country gathered for the 33rd time to protest the resignation of Mykhailo Fedorov from the post of Ukraine’s Minister of Defense.
