Drone attack more than 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine: General Staff confirms strike on oil refinery in Orsk

The General Staff has confirmed that an oil refinery in Orsk, Orenburg Oblast, Russia, has been hit.

Earlier, the monitoring channel reported that the facility in question was the “Orsknefteorgsintez” oil refinery. A major fire broke out on the refinery’s grounds following the explosions.

It is noted that as a result of the drone attack, a hydrocracking complex with a capacity of 1.6 million metric tons per year was hit. This is one of the plant’s key facilities, designed for the processing of vacuum gas oil and the production of light petroleum products.

The Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery produces more than 30 types of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, and others. The refinery’s design capacity is 6.6 million metric tons of crude oil per year.

In addition, local sources report that a machinery plant in Orsk, linked to the Russian defense industry, may have been attacked. The plant manufactures components for weapons, including parts for ammunition and rockets for the “Grad” multiple launch rocket system.

At this time, regional authorities have not commented on the drone attack or its consequences.

As a reminder, on the night of August 11, two major energy facilities in Russia’s deep rear were set ablaze simultaneously—an oil refinery in the Khabarovsk Krai and a combined heat and power plant in the Irkutsk Oblast. In the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, the Komsomolsk Oil Refinery, owned by Rosneft, caught fire, while the Angarsk CHP is a critical infrastructure facility in Siberia that supplies heat and electricity to the local petrochemical cluster.
