An oil refinery caught fire in Syzran, Russia, following explosions

This was reported by the Telegram channels ASTRA and Exilenova+, as well as in a statement by Vyacheslav Fedoryshchev, governor of the Samara Region of the Russian Federation.

According to monitoring sources, a “drone threat” alert was declared in the region around 2:00 a.m., and at 3:30 a.m., Governor Fedoryshchev reported a “missile threat” and urged civilians to take shelter.

Local residents report that the air raid sirens in Syzran went off around 3:50 a.m., and the first explosion was heard just a minute later. In total, at least 10 explosions were heard in the city by 4:30 a.m., after which thick black smoke rose from the area around the Syzran Oil Refinery and a fire broke out.

Official confirmation of the strike came after 6:00 a.m. The regional governor stated that one of the industrial facilities had been attacked by “enemy drones.” According to him, information regarding possible casualties is currently being verified. Around 6:00 a.m., the air raid alert in the region was lifted.

In addition, according to monitoring sources, another facility in the Russian oil refining industry – the Ilsky Oil Refinery, located in the Krasnodar Krai – was struck that same night.

This incident marks the third recorded strike on this facility in recent weeks. Previously, fires at the Syzran Refinery were reported on August 4 and July 12 (following the July attack, the plant completely halted operations). Overall, the facility was regularly targeted throughout 2025 and 2026.

JSC “Syzran Oil Refinery” is part of PJSC “Rosneft” and is one of the largest oil refineries in the region. The refinery processes between 7 and 8.5 million metric tons of crude oil per year and produces gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, and liquefied hydrocarbon gases.

As a reminder, on the night of August 6, the Russian city of Yaroslavl was attacked by drones, resulting in a fire at the Novo-Yaroslavl “Slavneft-YANOS” oil refinery.
