One of the largest oil refineries caught fire in Yaroslavl, Russia, following a drone attack

One of the fire sources has been geolocated directly on the refinery’s industrial site. The exact location of the second fire source is currently being determined.

PJSC “Slavneft-YANOS” is the main refining asset of the “Slavneft” company, controlled by “Rosneft” and “Gazprom,” and ranks among the top five largest oil refineries in Russia. The refinery processes approximately 15 million metric tons of crude oil annually and produces Euro-5-standard gasoline and diesel, jet fuel, rocket fuel, and other products.

In 2026 alone, this is already at least the seventh recorded fire at the facility, which is located 700 km from the Ukrainian border.

There have also been reports of a fire in a residential area of Tver, Russia. Prior to this, eyewitnesses reported hearing a humming sound, as well as drones being hit and shot down.

As a reminder, on the night of August 6, Ukraine continued to launch long-range strikes against Russian territory. In Yaroslavl, fires broke out following the activation of Russian air defense systems, and local residents reported an attack on an oil refinery.
