The Saratov Oil Refinery has come under attack: reports online indicate several fires have broken out

Explosions were heard in the Russian cities of Saratov and Engels on the night of August 2. According to Russian Telegram channels, a fire broke out at an oil refinery in Saratov, as well as in the city’s industrial zone. Reports indicate that the attack is ongoing.
This was reported by the Exilenova+ Telegram channel.
What is known about the attack
According to information circulating in public groups, the Saratov Oil Refinery was targeted. A fire broke out on the refinery’s grounds following a series of explosions. There are also reports of fires in the city’s industrial zone and a residential building.
In addition, explosions were reportedly heard near the Engels military airfield in the Saratov region. There is currently no official confirmation of this information.
Which facilities may have been affected
According to preliminary data, the area of possible damage includes several processing units at the Saratov Oil Refinery, specifically the LCh-35-11/600 and L-35-11/300 catalytic reforming units, the ELOU-AVT-6 unit, and the pentane-hexane fraction isomerization unit.
At the same time, one of the recorded fire outbreaks, according to preliminary assessments, may be linked to the burning of a flare stack rather than direct damage to production equipment.
As of the time of publication, no official information has been released regarding the extent of the damage, casualties, or consequences of the attack. The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on these reports either.
As a reminder, on the morning of August 1, drones attacked the territory of the “Bashneft-Ufanaftokhim” oil refinery complex in Ufa (Republic of Bashkortostan, Russian Federation). According to preliminary reports, a fire broke out on the facility’s grounds following the strike.
