Major General Ihor Skybiuk Will Become the New Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: What Is Known About Him

President Zelenskyy announced this on his Telegram channel.

Major General Ihor Skybiuk will become the new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This decision was made jointly with the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapati, and Yevhen Khmara. Zelenskiy noted that Skibyuk is an experienced military officer who, together with Drapaty, defended Ukraine.

The president also announced that further assignments have been determined for Oleksandr Syrskyi and Andriy Hnatov.

During the meeting, the country’s leadership discussed a number of priority areas for the development of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particular, they addressed strengthening Ukraine’s cyber forces, improving the military training system, developing the corps structure, and increasing the effectiveness of mobilization.

Special attention was given to programs aimed at strengthening air defense. Key projects include the development of the “Freya” anti-ballistic missile program, cooperation with the United States on the licensed production of Patriot systems, and the implementation of joint defense programs with European partners.

As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Oleksandr Syrskyi from his post as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The newly appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapatiy, commented on his appointment for the first time. He thanked President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his trust and expressed gratitude to Oleksandr Syrskyi, noting that he had “grown up” in the Ukrainian military.
