Russian security forces use a serial number system to identify foreign mercenaries recruited into the occupying army.

This was reported by the press service of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

The numbers are applied to their gear or directly to their skin, allowing Russian law enforcement to monitor the movements of military personnel and identify deserters.

Intelligence sources note that this system is used in place of standard metal military dog tags and effectively turns foreign soldiers into “numbered” combat units.

It is worth noting that these are not tattoos. The serial numbers are applied using permanent dyes—henna or jagua. These markings can remain on the body for several weeks and are not washed off by water.

According to the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, the Russian command uses these markings to identify soldiers who have deserted their units.

This primitive marking system allows Moscow to leave the bodies of liquidated foreigners on the battlefield as “unknown,” classify them as “missing in action,” and avoid paying monetary compensation to their families in Africa and Asia

The DIU also compared this marking system to practices in Nazi concentration camps, where prisoners were assigned numbers instead of names to strip them of their individuality and legal status.

We would also like to remind you that Ukrainian military intelligence identified a killed Russian mercenary from the Philippines—Jeric Jumadil Undol, born in 1989 in the Manila metropolitan area.
