Kyiv plans to review the procedures for managing traffic on the capital’s bridges during air raid alerts. City officials, in collaboration with the military, are to develop an updated protocol and submit it to the government.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this.
According to Klitschko, one of the main issues discussed at the Defense Council meeting was a request to the government to review the security protocols currently in effect in the capital.
Special attention will be given to traffic management on bridges during air raid alerts. Klitschko noted that the procedures will be reviewed in collaboration with the military.
Together with the military, we will review the procedures for managing traffic on Kyiv’s bridges during air raid alerts. And we will propose a well-developed algorithm to the government

At the same time, a petition was registered on the Kyiv City Council’s petition website regarding the construction of dual-purpose municipal underground parking garages that also serve as shelters near key metro stations on the left bank.
The petition’s authors note that during air raid alerts, above-ground metro stations on the left bank become one of the main places of shelter, while traffic across the bridges may come to a complete standstill.
As a reminder, in early August, Vitali Klitschko stated that the issue of shelters in the capital is becoming increasingly urgent amid Russian shelling of the city. He noted that, regarding the installation of mobile shelters, district administrations are not spending the allocated funds quickly enough.
