A large-scale blackout occurred in the occupied part of eastern Ukraine

In the occupied territories of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions, widespread power outages were recorded on the night of August 28 following a drone attack.

Local residents told the Russian publication ASTRA that a thermal power plant may have caught fire after a drone strike in the occupied town of Schastia in Luhansk Oblast. 

Reports of power outages began to surface around midnight. In particular, residents of the occupied parts of Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions reported the outages.

According to local Telegram channels, power was also lost in Donetsk around 1:00 a.m.

Prior to this, starting at 9:00 p.m. on August 27, local sources had warned of the threat of a drone attack. However, there has been no official confirmation of the causes of the widespread power outages.

Denis Pushilin, the Russian-appointed head of the occupied part of Donetsk Oblast, did not comment on the consequences of the attack.

Around 4:00 a.m., power began to be restored in some areas.

As a reminder, Russian troops once again shelled the Kherson Thermal Power Plant, causing significant damage to the facility. The occupiers also continue to target the city’s critical infrastructure. The regional military administration has called on Kherson residents to evacuate.
