Over the past 24 hours, on August 22, Russian troops carried out nearly 70 attacks on 15 local communities in the Sumy region. Two people were killed and six others were wounded as a result of explosions and enemy strikes.

This was reported by the Sumy Regional Military Administration and the head of the Regional Military Administration, Oleg Grigorov.

According to the head of the Regional Military Administration, two people were killed in the Seredyna-Budsk community after stepping on explosive devices.

First, a 61-year-old man, while riding a bicycle, ran over an explosive device and died from his injuries at the scene. Later, in the same community, a 50-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries as a result of an explosion involving an unknown object, while a 71-year-old woman who was nearby was injured.

The regional governor once again emphasized the high danger of staying in border areas and urged local residents not to delay their evacuation.

In addition to mine explosions, five more civilians were injured in the region due to enemy shelling:

  • In the Seredyna-Budsk community, a 52-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man were wounded by mortar fire;
  • In the Krasnopil community, a 51-year-old man was injured when an enemy UAV struck a car;
  • In the Esman community, a 60-year-old man was injured when a drone struck a residential building;
  • In the Shostka community, a 73-year-old man was wounded by an airstrike.

The highest number of attacks involving mortars, artillery, FPV drones, and guided aerial bombs was recorded in the Sumy, Shostka, and Konotop districts.

As a result of the strikes, private homes, apartment buildings, civilian infrastructure, non-residential buildings, outbuildings, cars, and buses were destroyed or damaged.

The air raid alert in the region lasted nearly 22 hours.

As a reminder, on the night of August 23, a Russian attack drone struck private homes in the Osnovyanskyi district of Kharkiv. Four people are reported to have been injured.
