In the Sumy region, Russian troops struck a commuter diesel train. Russia launched a second strike while firefighters were extinguishing the fire.

Update at 7:00 p.m.

According to the State Emergency Service, 10 people were injured in a drone attack on a commuter train.

The drone strike caused the locomotive and a passenger car to catch fire. While extinguishing the fire, rescue workers transported the injured to ambulances. Rescue workers, together with local authorities, evacuated 19 passengers. They were transported in an armored vehicle provided by the State Emergency Service and a bus provided by the local government.

Sixty passengers were transported to their destinations by bus.

While cleanup efforts were underway, the enemy launched a second strike. Fortunately, none of the State Emergency Service personnel were injured.

The attack was previously reported by Oleksandr Perttsovskyi, chairman of the board of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia.”

According to him, the strike occurred while a commuter train was traveling in the Sumy region. After the threat was detected, the train made an emergency stop, and the passengers were evacuated.

According to preliminary information, not everyone managed to move a sufficient distance away from the train. As a result, some passengers sustained shrapnel wounds.

The train crew provided first aid to the victims directly at the scene. Medical personnel arrived shortly thereafter.

Ukrzaliznytsia urged passengers to follow evacuation procedures

Perttsovsky emphasized that rolling stock and infrastructure in communities near the front lines remain among the primary targets of Russian forces. He urged passengers not to delay and to proceed to a shelter immediately upon the announcement of a safety stop and evacuation.

If the train stops on the tracks or at a station where there is no shelter, passengers must move at least 200 meters away from the train.

As stated on posters in every electric and diesel train, as well as in the information provided at every stop and on all trains—during a safety stop or when an evacuation is announced: proceed immediately to a shelter.

Otherwise, you are putting yourself in mortal danger. These rules were written in blood

As a reminder, today, September 8, Russian troops launched two precision strikes with “Shahed” drones against a train traveling from Kyiv to Sumy as it approached Sumy. The train was stopped in time, and all passengers were evacuated. There were no casualties.
