On the night of August 20, Russian invaders attacked a border crossing with Moldova in the Odesa region and gas infrastructure in the Chernihiv region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this.
Overnight, the Russians launched ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones, at Ukrainian cities.
Zelenskyy said that emergency services are currently working at the sites of the Russian strikes.
It was a massive strike—the Russians prepared for a long time and combined various types of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones to inflict as much damage as possible on civilian infrastructure. There is destruction in Kyiv and the surrounding region, as well as in the Odesa and Chernihiv regions.

In the capital, residential buildings, a children’s hospital, and a school have been damaged. Emergency rescue operations are continuing. As of now, it is known that this Russian strike claimed the lives of 12 people in Kyiv, and one person has died in the region.
In the Odesa region, the enemy attacked a border crossing with Moldova using drones; in the Chernihiv region, they targeted gas infrastructure. Thank you to all the rescue workers, medical personnel, police officers, and utility workers who have been helping people from the very first moments

Zelenskyy emphasized that the international community does not always respond appropriately to such attacks. As long as Ukraine lacks sufficient anti-ballistic capabilities, Russia will not seriously consider peace.
We are doing everything we can to ensure we have the necessary defenses, and work on the FREYJA program continues every day. But the “Patriot” interceptors cannot be replaced yet, and we need them every day. Every additional missile saves the lives of our people. I thank everyone who understands this, who seeks out and finds ways to help

As a reminder, as a result of a massive Russian attack on the night of August 20, parts of Kyiv, the Odesa region, and Kherson were left without power. Tens of thousands of consumers are without electricity.
