In Ufa, Russia, drones attacked one of Bashneft’s largest oil refineries, causing a fire

This has been reported by the Telegram channels Astra and Exilenova+, as well as local authorities.

According to eyewitnesses and video footage shared on social media, two massive plumes of black smoke rose above the refinery complex following the explosions.

Meanwhile, Bashkortostan’s head, Radii Khabirov, stated in his report that the attack had allegedly been “successfully repelled.” According to him, the “smoke” at the refinery was caused by debris from a downed drone. The Russian official also claims that no one was injured as a result of the incident.

Strategic Importance of the Facility

The “Bashneft-Ufanaftokhim” facility is a key component of Russia’s fuel infrastructure. Together with two adjacent plants—Bashneft-Novoyl and Bashneft-UNPZ—it forms the unified Ufa Oil Refining Complex.

This facility is one of the largest in the Russian Federation: its total refining capacity is 23.5 million metric tons of crude oil per year.

As a reminder, RI-Invest’s Tyumen Oil Refinery completely halted crude oil processing and the production of petroleum products. This occurred on July 25 following a drone attack that damaged the refinery’s secondary units. The refinery has a total capacity of 9 million metric tons per year. However, in 2024, it processed only 5.7 million metric tons of crude oil, producing 0.5 million metric tons of gasoline and 2.8 million metric tons of diesel fuel.
