Ukraine's government impos es special border regime along Russian , Belarusian borders

This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

The restrictions are in effect for the duration of martial law and, in particular, prohibit the free entry, stay, residence, and movement of people in this zone.

The government approved the relevant changes on August 17, 2026, via Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 1049 “On Amending Paragraph 2-1 of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Resolution No. 1147 of July 27, 1998.”

The resolution has already entered into force, and state border protection authorities have begun implementing the provisions set forth therein.

What restrictions will apply in the border zone

Within a 1-kilometer-wide strip along the state border with Russia and Belarus, the free entry, stay, residence, and movement of people are prohibited.

Work not related to repelling armed aggression against Ukraine, national defense, or the protection of the state border is also restricted.

The State Border Guard Service noted that the decision was made to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities. Separately, the decision takes into account the risk of Belarusian territory being used to destabilize the situation in Ukraine’s border regions, conduct reconnaissance and subversive activities, and pose other threats to national interests.

As a reminder, Serhiy “Flash” Beskresnov explained that Russia could use Belarus’s mobile networks to receive telemetry from “Shahed” strike drones.
