A suspect in the attempted assassination of Igor Obolensky, commander of “Charter,” was detained in Kharkiv

This was reported by “Ukrainska Pravda,” citing informed sources within law enforcement.

According to the sources, the man approached Obolensky from behind, but the weapon failed to fire. He was subsequently detained near a barbershop in Kharkiv.

A Makarov pistol and ammunition were seized from the suspect.

According to investigators, the man was recruited remotely by Russian intelligence services. They posed as representatives of the SBU and convinced the Kharkiv resident that Obolensky was allegedly a “traitor.”

As proof of their claims, the handlers sent the man an AI-generated photo in which Obolensky was supposedly depicted against the backdrop of the Kremlin wearing a T-shirt with Russian Federation symbols.

The detainee also stated that he received the weapon from an unidentified individual in Kharkiv on the instructions of a Russian handler.

Law enforcement officials are currently working to identify the person who handed over the weapon, analyzing CCTV footage, and investigating possible accomplices. They are also investigating whether there was a leak of information regarding the soldier’s movements.

A criminal investigation has been opened into the incident.
