On the morning of August 27, a car exploded in the Slavyanka neighborhood of St. Petersburg; inside were a military officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel and his wife.

This is according to Russian media reports.

The explosion occurred around 10 a.m. near the "Magnit" store on Kolpinskoye Highway.

Preliminary reports indicate that a homemade explosive device went off inside the car. The Geely crossover exploded immediately after the engine was started.

It is reported that the car was severely damaged, with debris scattered over dozens of meters. The official cause of the explosion and the identity of the deceased have not yet been determined.

The soldier died at the scene; his wife is in intensive care.

As a reminder, an explosion occurred at a well-known restaurant in Moscow in early July. Three people were killed, and media outlets reported that it was an assassination attempt on Russian Aerospace Forces Commander Chaika.
