Ukraine has filed an appeal with the arbitration court over the IOC's decision regarding Russia

The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine announced this on Facebook.

On July 28, the NOC of Ukraine filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne. The Ukrainian side is requesting that the IOC’s decision of July 7, 2026, be overturned, arguing that it contradicts the provisions of the Olympic Charter and established CAS practice.

The NOC of Ukraine stated that the IOC’s decision was made prematurely and without a proper review of whether the violations that led to the ROC’s suspension in 2023 had been rectified.

Specifically, this concerns interference with the territorial jurisdiction of the NOC of Ukraine through the inclusion of sports organizations from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine within the structure of the Russian Olympic Committee.

The Ukrainian NOC initiated the appeal process in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and with legal support from the law firm “Ilyashev & Partners.”

The NOC emphasized that filing the appeal is an important step toward protecting the principles of the Olympic Charter, international law, and Ukraine’s territorial integrity within the international sports community.

As a reminder, the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) temporarily lifted the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), which had been in effect since October 12, 2023.
