During his address to the Verkhovna Rada, newly appointed Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara outlined three key priorities for his work: strengthening the front lines, developing human capital, and expanding the defense-industrial complex.
This information emerged during a session of the Verkhovna Rada.
According to Khmara, one of the main tasks is to seize the strategic initiative in all domains of warfare – on land, at sea, in the air, and in cyberspace. He also emphasized the need for rapid information exchange between the military and the Ministry of Defense so that the needs of the front lines are promptly taken into account during decision-making.
Separately, the minister promised to ensure the timely delivery of necessary weapons and to make procurement transparent by reducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
Khmara named people – the lives and health of military personnel – as the second priority. He emphasized the importance of high-quality training, fair rules of service, and the use of technology to reduce risks to the military.
The third priority is the development of Ukraine’s defense industry and increasing domestic weapons production.
We’ve closed the distance. There are no longer any safe zones for facilities that fuel the Russian war. For the first time in history, we’re striking targets even in Siberia. The enemy’s entire economic war machine is our target.
Yevhenii Khmara Minister of Defense of Ukraine
As a reminder, on August 19, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Yevhen Khmara as Ukraine’s Minister of Defense. Before the vote, he announced that he had resigned from military service. Ukrainian law stipulates that the Minister of Defense must be a civilian.
