On Wednesday, August 19, the Verkhovna Rada elected Yevhenii Khmara as Ukraine's new minister of defense.
This information came to light during a broadcast from the Verkhovna Rada.
312 members of parliament voted in favor of Khmara’s appointment to this position.
As a reminder, the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada today endorsed Yevhenii Khmara’s candidacy for the position of Minister of Defense. Meanwhile, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dismissed Yevhenii Khmara from his position as Deputy Minister of Defense and terminated his powers as acting head of the ministry.
The day before, the Verkhovna Rada continued its meetings with candidates for the posts of Minister of Defense and Minister of Foreign Affairs. During the discussions, they addressed the main challenges facing Ukraine, as well as the candidates’ visions regarding the priorities for the ministries they would lead.
