Dmytro Lytvyn, the Ukrainian president’s communications adviser, answered questions about possible plans to appoint Rustem Umerov as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States.

He wrote in response to Daria Kalenyuk’s Facebook post.

Daria Kalenyuk, a civic activist, journalist, and co-founder of the Anti-Corruption Action Center, published statements by political analyst Igor Reiterovich regarding the negative reaction in the U.S. to Umerov’s nomination for the post of ambassador.

According to Lytvyn, the plans to appoint Rustem Umerov are a fabrication that has no basis in reality.

“Because this never happened—it’s simply a fabrication being spread, claiming that Rustem’s candidacy was supposedly submitted for the ambassadorial post and that the Americans supposedly rejected it. This is fantasy that has absolutely no basis in reality.”

Earlier, political analyst Ihor Reiterovich said in an interview with Radio NV that Ukraine had allegedly made a second attempt to “push Umerov” for the post of ambassador to the U.S., but the Americans “politely but firmly said no.”

According to him, even before Olga Stefanishyna’s appointment as ambassador, the U.S. State Department had expressed the position that Umerov’s candidacy was “unacceptable.” And the U.S. reiterated this same view after Stefanishyna’s dismissal.

Reiterovich emphasized that the appointment of an ambassador to the U.S. is a very important matter. Especially now, on the eve of elections in Russia and preparations for mobilization, as well as due to a critical shortage of Patriot missiles. The absence of an official ambassador (not an acting ambassador) in this country, which is key for us, could greatly complicate Ukraine’s situation.

As a reminder, Umerov currently heads the Foreign Intelligence Service. He has outlined his objectives at the Foreign Intelligence Service as strengthening its capabilities, securing the necessary resources, and creating all the conditions for maximum operational effectiveness.
