On August 13, Olga Stefanishyna’s former colleagues in the legal profession posted a bail of six million hryvnias for the former Ukrainian ambassador to the United States.
This was reported by “UP” and “Babel,” citing comments from the High Anti-Corruption Court.
The law firm “Ilyashev & Partners” posted a 6 million hryvnia bail bond for Olga Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s former ambassador to the U.S.
Earlier, Olga Stefanishyna stated that she was expecting assistance from her former business colleagues.
The sum of 6 million hryvnias, as I stated earlier, is exorbitant for me and my family. My position on the amount remains unchanged, but to avoid leaving room for speculation surrounding this situation, it has been decided that the bail will be posted today by former colleagues from the legal profession with whom I worked before joining the government and who are defending me, while the appeal is being considered in court

She also noted that bail is a precautionary measure, the funds for which are returned if the person complies with all procedural requirements.
We are taking this step precisely because we are confident in it

In addition, Stefanishyna’s defense team filed an appeal regarding the type of pretrial measure and the amount of bail.
As a reminder, Stefanishyna was unable to post bail in the case of illicit enrichment. Because she failed to post bail, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) gained the right to petition the court to change the preventive measure to a more severe one.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) notified Stefanishyna of the new charge on August 5. The prosecution alleges that the former official failed to disclose in her asset declaration two one-bedroom apartments, funds spent on property renovations, her mother’s medical treatment, airline tickets, and the rent for another apartment.
During a preliminary hearing, Stefanishyna stated that she was unable to pay the bail amount proposed by the prosecution on her own. She asked the court to reduce the amount, citing expenses related to her return from the United States, settling her family’s life in Ukraine, and paying her attorneys’ fees. She does not admit guilt and emphasizes that a notice of suspicion does not constitute proof of guilt.
