"They wanted to cause as much damage as possible": Zelenskyy on the Russian nighttime attack

In Kyiv and the surrounding region, as well as in many other regions of Ukraine, work has been underway since last night to address the aftermath of the Russian attack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote about this on his Telegram channel.
According to the president, it was a complex attack that the Russians deliberately miscalculated.
They deliberately sought to inflict as much damage as possible: ballistic, cruise, and anti-ship missiles, as well as “Shahed” drones. There is significant damage to residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure in the capital. As of now, ten people are known to have been injured. Medical assistance is being provided to everyone who needs it. State Emergency Service personnel managed to rescue thirteen people. Unfortunately, two people were killed.

Zelenskyy noted that in the Kyiv region, strikes targeted critical infrastructure, while in the Odesa region, a regular market was hit. Two people were injured in Kharkiv, where an apartment building was damaged. This morning, a diesel locomotive on the Kyiv–Sumy train was attacked at a railway station in the Sumy region. There were no casualties. The evacuation of people is ongoing. The Russians also struck Zaporizhzhia and the Dnipropetrovsk region.
In total, our soldiers shot down 175 aerial targets overnight, but, unfortunately, not all of them. Despite very good results against cruise missiles, dealing with ballistic missiles is particularly challenging, and every day we emphasize to our partners our need for interceptors.

The Ukrainian leader reported that discussions on this matter have already taken place with American and European officials. He added that meetings will be held today with representatives of countries and companies that can assist with supplies and with our FREYJA anti-ballistic missile system.
The president thanked partners who consider assisting Ukraine with air defense a priority.
As a reminder, on the night of September 8, as a result of a massive Russian attack on Kyiv, two people were killed and 10 others were injured, including a foreign national. A high-rise building, an educational institution, a business center, and warehouse facilities were damaged.
Due to the enemy attack on Kyiv, public transportation is operating with changes to its schedules. The Kyiv City State Administration has announced changes to the routes of some trolleybuses, trams, and buses.
