Shelling of Kyiv on the night of August 20: Initial details of the enemy attack

On the night of August 20, Russia attacked Kyiv with missiles and drones. Strikes, falling debris, and fires were reported in several districts of the capital; residential buildings and a children’s hospital were damaged.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported this on Telegram.
In the Sviatoshynsky district, a strike was recorded on the territory of non-residential buildings. In the Darnytskyi district, non-residential premises caught fire. Later, in the Sviatoshynsky district of Kyiv, the destruction of buildings on the territory of non-residential developments was reported.
In the Solomyanskyi district, debris fell near a five-story residential building. According to preliminary reports, windows were shattered in the building, and a fire broke out. In addition, a children’s hospital was damaged: windows were shattered there, and cars caught fire on the premises.
Medical emergency calls were received in the Solomyansky and Darnytskyi districts. Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scenes.
At the time of this report, the attack on the capital was ongoing, and residents were urged to remain in shelters.
At approximately 12:32 a.m., Klitschko reported that, according to preliminary data, people in the Solomyanskyi district were trapped in a shelter, and emergency services were already on their way to the scene. A fire is ongoing in warehouse facilities in the Sviatoshynskyi district.
As of 12:50 a.m., four casualties have been reported in Kyiv.
At 01:05, Klitschko reported that a woman had been killed as a result of the Russian attack on Kyiv.
Later, the mayor noted that in the Solomyanskyi district, the upper floors of a nine-story residential building were damaged and a fire broke out, while at another location, people were trapped inside a residential building.
As of 1:15 a.m., six people were reported injured as a result of the enemy attack on the capital. The Kyiv City State Administration also reported that two women had been killed.
The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that as of 1:40 a.m., the number of people injured as a result of the enemy attack on Kyiv had risen to 12. The injured are receiving all necessary medical care.
At 2:05 a.m., the mayor of Kyiv noted that power had gone out in parts of the Svyatoshyn and Solomyanskyi districts of Kyiv. Utility workers are investigating the cause of the emergency power outage.
At 2:51 a.m., Klitschko provided updated figures on the fatalities. It turned out that three people were killed as a result of the enemy attack on the capital, and another 20 Kyiv residents were injured. Fourteen of the injured were hospitalized; the rest received the necessary medical care on an outpatient basis or directly at the scene.
The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that as of 3:20 a.m., the effects of the Russian attack had been recorded at more than 12 locations in the Darnytskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Solomianskyi districts of Kyiv. Residential buildings, medical facilities, and educational institutions were damaged, and large-scale fires broke out in warehouse areas. Emergency and utility services continue to work on-site to address the aftermath of the strike. Five people were killed in the attack, and another 23 were injured.
As a reminder, on Wednesday, August 19, Russian forces attacked Zhytomyr with “Banderole” rocket-powered drones. According to updated information, 40 people were injured in the strike, and a hit on the National Police building was also recorded; work is currently underway there to address the aftermath of the attack.
