Russia launched a missile strike on the ArcelorMittal steel mill in Kryvyi Rih: the body of a second victim was recovered from the rubble, and there are injured people

This was reported by Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration; Oleksandr Vilkul, chairman of the Kryvyi Rih Defense Council; and the company’s press office.

During emergency rescue operations, emergency responders recovered the body of another deceased employee – a 44-year-old man who had previously been listed as missing – from under the rubble. Thus, the death toll from the enemy strike has risen to two.

Fourteen people (employees of the plant and contracting organizations) sustained injuries of varying severity. According to the Regional State Administration, 11 of them are in the city’s hospitals, including a 48-year-old man in critical condition – doctors are fighting to save his life.

Consequences for the Plant and Civil Infrastructure

The missile strikes damaged ArcelorMittal’s main power generation and blast furnace facilities. The company has activated its emergency response plan and partially suspended production processes. Experts are assessing the extent of the damage and the feasibility of restoration.

This is not the first Russian attack on “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih.” The company noted that in 2022, the facility had already suffered a devastating missile strike. At that time, the section rolling mill was destroyed and an employee was killed.

In addition to the plant’s grounds, the blast wave and debris damaged civilian infrastructure in Kryvyi Rih:

• 13 high-rise residential buildings;
• educational institutions (a lyceum, a school/vocational school);
• a medical and health center; and business facilities.

As a reminder, on the night of August 15, Russian forces launched a combined strike on Kryvyi Rih using ballistic missiles and drones. The enemy targeted the city’s industrial facilities.

In addition, Kyiv came under attack by Russia that same night. As a result of the attack on the capital, three people were injured, and fires broke out and damage occurred in two districts.
