The death toll from the Russian attack in Zhytomyr on August 19 has risen to three. Another 53 people were injured.

This was reported by the State Emergency Service’s press office.

As of the morning of August 20, the number of dead and injured has risen. Earlier reports indicated that two people were killed and more than 40 were injured as a result of Russian shelling.

It is now known that three people were killed and 53 were injured. 

Rescue workers continue to operate at the scene—the fire has been extinguished. Emergency response and restoration work is currently underway: emergency responders are dismantling damaged structures and surveying the scene

The agency noted that rescue climbers from the Cherkasy and Rivne regions have been deployed to assist with the work.

The State Emergency Service added that rescue workers and representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross rapid response team set up aid stations. The World Central Kitchen team provided meals for the personnel.

Rescue operations continued throughout the night. They were complicated by repeated air raid alerts

As a reminder, on August 19, Russian troops struck Zhytomyr using “Banderol” jet-powered drones. The attack resulted in a direct hit on the building housing the regional headquarters of the National Police. Two police officers were killed, and more than 40 others were injured.
