Officials from the State Bureau of Investigation have decoded the data from the flight data recorder and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash of a Su-24M military aircraft in the Khmelnytskyi region, which resulted in the deaths of two pilots.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR).

Investigators received the results of an internal investigation conducted by the Ukrainian Air Force command and ordered an additional aviation technical examination.

The tragedy occurred on June 16, 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m. near one of the region’s settlements. The aircraft was on its second flight that day.

According to the flight data recorder, components of the control system on the left wing failed during the flight. After that, the aircraft lost control and began spinning around its axis. It was falling from an altitude of over 600 meters at a speed of 809 km/h.

According to preliminary findings from the Air Force’s internal investigation, the damage may have been caused by an external factor—a bird strike.

As a reminder, the deaths of the two Su-24M pilots in the Khmelnytskyi region occurred while they were carrying out a combat mission. Officials from the State Bureau of Investigations have launched a pre-trial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash of the Su-24M military aircraft.
