Russia has announced that it is preparing new large-scale strikes against Ukraine's energy sector

This was reported on the Russian agency’s Telegram channel.

The Russian agency claims that the Russian Armed Forces "have begun preparing" attacks, which they are attempting to justify as a "response" to Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil and gas infrastructure, the fuel and energy sector, and "civilian facilities."

Context: Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil refining facilities

The statement from the occupying ministry came amid record losses in the Russian fuel and energy sector. According to Bloomberg, the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out at least 21 strikes on Russian oil refineries in August. This set an all-time monthly record for the number of attacks since the start of the full-scale war and led to yet another wave of acute fuel shortages in regions of the Russian Federation.

Change in the Enemy’s Airstrike Tactics

By the end of August, the occupiers had already significantly altered the nature of their airstrikes on Ukrainian territory. Russian forces are making massive use of new jet-powered drones, which carry out raids in several consecutive waves, in combination with “Iskander-M” ballistic missiles and North Korean KN-23 missiles. This is leading to prolonged air raid alerts in many regions of the country.

As a reminder, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia will not stop at the front lines but will make its own methods of combat “much harsher to destroy everything that fuels Kyiv’s military machine from the West.”
