On August 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed four decrees imposing new sanctions against Russian companies, officials, and other individuals. The restrictions target suppliers to Russia’s military-industrial complex, non-ferrous metallurgy enterprises, collaborators, and individuals involved in Russian propaganda.

This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.

One of the packages targets companies that help Russia obtain goods necessary for weapons production while circumventing sanctions. The list includes 28 Russian citizens, 36 Russian companies, and one Chinese company.

These include suppliers of industrial equipment, electronics, tools, and components. Among the sanctioned entities are also those that manufacture or repair military equipment, operate in the drone sector, and develop specialized software for Russian security forces.

Another set of sanctions targets five companies within the Rusal Group and nine Russian citizens associated with them. The Office of the President noted that these companies import alumina and produce aluminum used to meet the needs of the Russian military-industrial complex. In addition, raw materials and products for military equipment, rocket and artillery weapons, and aviation are supplied to Russia through companies in this sector.

Separately, sanctions were imposed on 45 individuals and eight legal entities. This list includes high-ranking Russian officials, supporters of the occupation of Ukrainian territories, as well as individuals who collaborate with Russian entities in the temporarily occupied territories.

Among them is Yuriy Ivanyushchenko, a former member of parliament from the “Party of Regions.” According to the Office of the President, he is a suspect in a case involving the legalization of land plots worth over 160 million hryvnias. Companies linked to him operate in occupied Crimea, and Ivanyushchenko himself has visited Russia on multiple occasions since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Five Russian citizens and four organizations linked to the creation and distribution of the animated series “Masha and the Bear” were also sanctioned. The list includes the “Animaccord” studio, its founder, CEO, screenwriter, director, producer, and other individuals associated with the series.

Separately, the Office of the President noted that the sanctions apply to the owner of the rights to the cartoon and an individual who, according to the agency, makes payments to the Russian budget.

We continue to systematically identify and restrict the activities of companies working for the Russian military-industrial complex. We expect our partners to support these efforts and for European companies to cease all interactions with such Russian enterprises, in particular with companies belonging to the Rusal Group.

Advisor – Presidential Envoy on Sanctions Policy

According to Vlasyuk, Ukraine will also share information with its partners to synchronize these sanctions in other jurisdictions.

As a reminder, on August 3, Ukraine had already imposed sanctions against 23 companies and 20 individuals associated with them who were supplying equipment and components to the Russian defense-industrial complex in circumvention of sanctions. Among them were companies involved in the production of missiles, drones, electronic warfare systems, and other military products.
