On September 6, U.S. President’s special envoys—Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner—as well as representatives of European partners, including France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, arrived in Kyiv for talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to the president, several important sessions are expected.
This was stated by Volodymyr Zelenskyy in remarks made before the meeting, as well as by Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
According to Zelenskyy, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner wanted to fly to Kyiv, but Russian attacks prevented them from doing so. He noted that Ukrainian airports were ready to receive the American plane.
The president also said that several rounds of talks are expected. One will be with U.S. representatives, another with European representatives, and “a few more rounds.”
Zelenskyy emphasized that he had long awaited the arrival of the American special envoys and thanked Donald Trump for allowing them to make this visit despite the security situation.
As a reminder, on Sunday, September 6, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv to hold talks with the Ukrainian side. This is the first visit by U.S. negotiators to Ukraine since they became involved in the peace settlement process for the Russian-Ukrainian war.
