New appointments at the Ministry of Defense: The Government approves a Deputy Minister of Defense

The government has appointed Mykola Shvydkyi as Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine. His key task is to strengthen practical cooperation between the ministry and the military.
This was announced by Yevheniy Khmara.
The new deputy’s primary focus will be on coordination between the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapatyi.
Decisions made by the Ministry of Defense must be as closely aligned as possible with the actual situation on the front lines, the needs of combat units, and the tasks facing the Defense Forces

Khmara emphasized the importance of maintaining a constant presence within brigades and units on the front lines to clearly understand the state of affairs in the military and hear requests directly from the soldiers.
We must move forward together with the Commander-in-Chief and the General Staff—with a shared understanding of priorities and our responsibility to the soldiers. The needs of the units must reach the Ministry more quickly, and concrete decisions for the soldiers must reach the front lines more quickly

As a reminder, the Ministry of Defense has explained how defense industry enterprises can confirm their status as critically important. Defense industry enterprises must submit documents to confirm this status by August 10, 2026.
