“We simply don’t have any missiles for the Patriot”: Zelenskyy explained why the air defense system was only able to shoot down one of the 27 ballistic missiles

The head of state emphasized that the shortage of anti-ballistic defense systems directly affects the number of civilian casualties and encourages the aggressor to launch new attacks.

The President called on international partners to expedite the delivery of air defense systems and ammunition, emphasizing that they must be used to protect people, not kept in reserve.

Zelenskyy also reported that as a result of the strike on the capital—which affected seven districts—18 residential buildings, a school, infrastructure facilities, and the Lithuanian Embassy building were damaged. As of this morning, nine deaths have been confirmed, and dozens have been injured. In addition to the capital, the enemy launched strikes on the Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Poltava regions.

Details from the Air Force: What Weapons Did the Enemy Use?

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the Air Defense Forces detected a total of 220 air attack weapons:

• 27 “Iskander-M”/S-400 ballistic missiles;
• 4 “Zircon”/“Onyx” anti-ship missiles;
• 4 guided and anti-radar missiles (Kh-31, Kh-59/69);
• 185 strike and decoy UAVs (such as Shahed, “Gerbera,” “Italmas,” “Parodia,” etc.).

Air defense forces, aviation units, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups managed to shoot down and neutralize 156 targets: 154 drones, one Kh-59/69 air-to-ground missile, and only one “Iskander-M”/S-400 ballistic missile.

According to military reports, due to a shortage of interceptor missiles, 26 ballistic missiles, 4 anti-ship missiles, and 23 drones struck 21 locations.

As a reminder, on the night of August 1, Russian forces attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles. Nine people are known to have been killed and more than 20 wounded. Fires, destruction, and falling debris were reported in various parts of the capital.

It later emerged that the number of casualties resulting from the Russian occupiers’ nighttime ballistic attack on Kyiv had risen to 30. Nine people were killed, including a police officer who was on duty. Damage of varying degrees has already been reported in various parts of the capital.
