Russian Attack on Kyiv: Death Toll Rises; August 21 Declared a Day of Mourning in the Capital

As a result of Russia’s massive attack on Kyiv, 15 people were killed and another 39 were injured. The effects of the strikes were reported in the Svyatoshynskyi, Solomyanskyi, and Darnytskyi districts of the capital.

According to the latest information from the State Emergency Service, the number of casualties in Kyiv has risen to 39.
Rescue workers are currently conducting emergency rescue operations at the site of the Russian strike in the Solomyanskyi district. State Emergency Service dog handlers have been deployed to the scene.
Work is underway to remove the roof of a high-rise residential building and unstable structures from nearby damaged buildings. Fifty-two cubic meters of construction debris have already been removed.

It is noted that command centers have been set up at the sites of the attacks to accept reports of damaged or destroyed property. More than 200 reports have already been processed in Kyiv. Psychologists are on site to support people who have lost loved ones or been left homeless.
In the capital, about 20 residential buildings, a school, a children’s hospital, and a kindergarten—all civilian facilities that posed no threat—have been significantly damaged, the agency added.

Vitali Klitschko reported that another wounded person has died in a Kyiv hospital. The death toll in the capital now stands at 12. Of those, 7 people died in the Solomyanskyi district. 34 people were injured.
The mayor of Kyiv added that August 21 has been declared a Day of Mourning in Kyiv in memory of the victims of the enemy’s massive attack on the capital.
On this day, flags will be flown at half-mast on all municipal buildings in the city. It is also recommended that national flags be flown at half-mast on both public and privately owned buildings in the capital. All entertainment events are prohibited in Kyiv on August 21.

According to updated information, the death toll from the Russian attack in Kyiv has risen to 6, with 33 people injured.
Rescue workers have freed two people from the rubble and are continuing to deal with the aftermath of last night’s attack on the capital in the Svyatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi, and Darnytskyi districts.

Svyatoshyn District
In the Sviatoshyn District, a strike was recorded on the grounds of an industrial facility. Fires in two warehouse buildings, measuring 500 and 1,000 square meters, were successfully contained. At another location, a 500-square-meter warehouse was on fire. One person was found dead, while rescuers continue efforts to free a person trapped under the rubble.
Solomyanskyi District
In a nine-story residential building, the eighth and ninth floors were destroyed. The fire broke out on the seventh through ninth floors. Windows were blown out in other buildings, and a school and a children’s hospital sustained damage. In addition, cars, garages, and a store were on fire. The fires in the garages and the medical facility have already been extinguished. People were trapped in two residential buildings and a school shelter.
Darnitskyi District
In the Darnytskyi District, a strike occurred on the grounds of a non-residential facility. Storage facilities and vehicles caught fire over an area of approximately 1,000 square meters. Rescuers freed one person and handed them over to medical personnel.
As a reminder, two law enforcement officers were killed and more than 40 others were injured as a result of the Russian attack on August 19 on the building of the National Police Headquarters in Zhytomyr Oblast.
